The
stained-glass windows
The
stained-glass windows installed in the church in March 2004 were designed
and made by Roland
Mitton DA. AMPE., whose work also includes the memorial window
in Dunblane Cathedral for the children killed in the Dunblane massacre.
Roland worked with Fr.Michael
on the design and they came to an agreement to 'keep it simple'. The theme
of the Good Shepherd side-by-side with St.Isidore the Farmer was settled
on early in their discussions. In the background of the Good Shepherd
window is Coulter Fell and in the St.Isidore window is Tinto Hill - these
two hills overlook the town.
Biblical
references were incorporated visually rather than verbally, with the Good
Shepherd carrying home the lost sheep and Isidore sowing the seed among
thorns and thistles, on rocky ground and good ground.
As
a personal touch, Fr.Michael's two dogs - Sancho, his golden retriever
and Lady, his flat-coat retriever were also included for posterity.
As one observer remarked:
"The
windows look as if they've always been there - they just fit the church
so well."
